Spider-Man's Tom Holland had a hilariously awkward first meeting with Stan Lee

This isn't really the introduction you'd hope for.

Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is known for providing us with wonderfully awkward moments, particularly with his habit of accidentally dropping spoilers for Marvel movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has now given us the gift of another hilarious Tom Holland story, as he revealed what happened during the actor's first ever meeting with Spider-Man creator Stan Lee.

While hosting a Q&A session on Instagram Stories, Gunn shared the story of how Holland and Lee's first encounter went down, and it sounds like it was beautifully awkward.

When asked whether he had any anecdotes about Lee, Gunn wrote: "I introduced Stan to Tom Holland just after Tom was hired to play Spider-Man. Stan says to him, 'Yes of course! I hear you're great! Personally, I don't see it!' And we all died laughing."

Thankfully Lee was joking and he actually publicly praised Holland in a tweet in 2018, calling him "a great Spider-Man" and saying that he is "the exact height and age I envisioned when I first wrote Spider-Man", calling him "my friend Tom".

Sadly Lee passed away in 2018 but his Marvel comic creations live on, with the MCU still going strong and Phase 4 ready to kick off with Black Widow later this year.

Spider-Man is one of Lee's most famous creations and the character is still featuring in plenty of new stories, with a third Spidey movie starring Tom Holland due for release in November 2021 – and following that big cliffhanger at the end of 2019's Far From Home, there are bound to be some huge developments in the next movie.

Another Spider-Man film currently in the works is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, which will continue the story of young Spidey Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and a host of alternate-reality webslingers, including middle-aged Peter B Parker (Jake Johnson), a super-powered Gwen Stacy / Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and private eye Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage).

Production has already begun on the sequel to the popular animation, which is due for release in 2022.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is available now on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download. A third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland has a release date of November 5, 2021.
