Ahead of its Cannes Film Festival premiere next month, MUBI, the global streaming service, confirmed that it had required the rights to distribute the movie across the two countries and that it'll come out in cinemas on September 3.
Directed by Holy Motors' Leos Carax, it follows LA-based stand-up comedian Henry (Driver), as he falls in love with world-renowned opera singer Ann (Inception's Marion Cotillard).
Forging a relationship while living in the spotlight, the happy couple find their lives turned upside down when they welcome their first child, Annette, a mysterious girl with an extraordinary destiny.
Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory) and Belgian singer-songwriter Angèle round out the cast.
Written by Sparks bandmembers Ron Mael and Russell Mael, the film marks Carax's first English-language picture and also features songs from music producer Marius de Vries, who has previously worked on titles such as La La Land, Bohemian Rhapsody and Moulin Rouge!
"Every Leos Carax film is an event. And this one delivers on its promises! Annette is the gift that lovers of cinema, music and culture were hoping for, one that we have been yearning for during the past year," Pierre Lescure, President of the Cannes Film Festival, previous said of the outing.
