Following Line of Duty's season six finale, a new drama from Mercurio's production company was announced. Trigger Point, starring McClure, will air on ITV, turning the spotlight on counter-terrorism policing and the Met Police's bomb disposal squad.
Now, the Line of Duty favourite has got a new partner, with Hustle and Merlin star Adrian Lester joining the Trigger Point cast.
Lester is set to star as Joel Nutkins, a colleague to McClure's Lana Washington, an experienced bomb disposal operative. Both ex-military, Lana and Joel are close, having previously served together in Afghanistan.
"I'm really looking forward to partnering with Vicky on this great new series," he said of his latest role. "Jed Mercurio's material is always great. This series is ambitious and challenging which is why it's exciting to be a part of the team."
The six-part thriller will focus on the the officers who risk their lives daily "on 'the long walk' towards danger".
Jed Mercurio is just as excited, saying that he's "absolutely thrilled" Adrian Lester has joined the team. "Adrian is one of the finest actors working in British television today and will make a formidable combination with Vicky McClure," he added.
Nobody tell Steve Arnott, though. Okay?
Line of Duty series 1-6 are available on BBC iPlayer, and a DVD and Blu-ray boxsets ares also available to buy now.
